About the Towne at Oak Glen HOA
The Towne at Oak Glen was incorporated in 1983 by the developer David Johnson. The cedar sided homes with shake roofs occupied acreage originally platted for twenty-one lots. The developer gifted two lots to the association. When the homeowners took over the association in 1984 they set dues at $84/moth and hired the first association manager.** Today seventeen townhomes nestle between the Oak Glen Golf course and McKusick Lake.
Oak Glen Golf Course, built in 1982, features 27 holes of bent grass fairways and greens. In 2014 it was awarded the Midwest Course of the Year. The most aced hole, a par three, borders the Towne at Oak Glen’s six-plex. It is also the hole where golfers often ask, “Where did my ball go?”**
Across the street from the townhomes sits Lake McKusick, part of a system of lakes in Stillwater. Named after lumberman John McKusick, the shallow lake is abundant with varieties of fish, birds, turtles, beavers and muskrats. A walking path around the lake is used by many walkers—dogs and humans—and swans, egrets, diving ospreys, eagles and sandhill cranes provide rich bird watching.
Cedar shakes & siding on the homes had to be replaced in the 2000s due to storm damage, much to the dismay of some of the original owners. Although no age constraints exist, the age of most owners is between 50 to 101 with a few youth and many visiting grandchildren keeping the community lively.
The association is now self-managed.
